We’ve got the all-new, much loved Toyota GR Yaris going up against the Mercedes-AMG A45 S and Honda Civic Type R across a series of 13 challenges.
Mat’s brought these three beloved hot hatches together to find out which one is the must-have in 2021. From lap times and interiors through to prices and boy racer features, this video includes it all!
But which will come out on top - the 1.6-litre turbo powered Toyota GR Yaris, which can produce 261hp & 360Nm? Or perhaps the Civic Type R, which has a 2-litre turbo which will put down 320hp & 400Nm? Or maybe it’ll be the most powerful car here, the A45 S, which despite only having a 2-litre turbo, can produce a HUGE 421hp and 500Nm!

So what was the price as tested of the AMG A45 ? 60K ? or more ? Way too much IMHO.Reliability and service costs? One car to rule them all ? Civic Type R for me. GR Yaris a nice toy and would be my choice as such . Civic Type R looks= love it or hate it.(or at least can live with).
Your mathematics sucks; the tests need to be weighted in a sensible manner to ensure that the things that really matter impact the result in a meaningful way. Might as well go and buy yourself a Burberry scarf and cap.

If you went by cost per features the GR is much, much better. If you go by Mileage per kilometre the GR is best. If you go by snow and ice performance the GR is best. The GR is almost like the Lotus Cortina back in the day. Faster, handles better and can beat other cars through cornering. At one point in time in the USA I had seven Cortina's with two that were Lotus. I would love to have one GR Yaris, even though I am now 68 years old I still love twisty roads going fast.

A 2018 Audi S1 3 door, far more luxurious high quality material cabin than any of these cars, therefore if included in this comparison would win the daily/living with category by a mile! Let’s be honest. If money wasn’t a factor the a45 is the hot hatch to get. You get the full package there interior/exterior/performance

Several of your statements are your opinion and may disagree with you. I would buy a vehicle for practicality and price as my main reasons for purchase. So the Merc is far too expensive and the Yaris is not as practical. I have never owned any of the brands featured but would go for the Type R any day.
Focus RS is the undisputed champ in this category.

GR Yaris. I've got one and I've also got four other cars: BMW 50i, 335i, Giulietta QV and Fiesta ST. They are all awesome in their own way but I find myself driving the GR Yaris more because every drive is an occasion and you can have ridiculous fun without as Mat says "going straight to jail." Plus everyone comments on the GR Yaris which is cool.

Not an suv fan, but this Q looks pretty good, I really like the stance, and some funky stuff going on with the volumes/angles making it land somewhere around sporty, modern, chunky but not vulgar, I’d say good up version
A45s takes the exterior looks, not the GR. Nothing looks better than A45s. I’d get the Civic though bcos of value

In my opinion, the Yaris is rather ugly, bordering on hideous, not unlike the type R .
Will be nice to see 0-100 kph as well.
I know *some* people will be aware of this, but most manufacturers quote metric figures for acceleration i.e. 0-100km/h which AS WE ALL SHOULD KNOW, is 62mph. Matt should be clear on this: it might after all explain how he was easy to beat the factory times. Also, manufacturers test under consistent conditions - 75% fuel (I believe) and weight of driver as 75kg. So depending on the laden weight of those cars and the weight of the driver, comparing to manufacturers times will be an unreliable test. This is why 0-60 test times on LTclub cannot be relied on - particularly if people are going off their speedometer and not a GPS laptimer. The mobile apps are not as good, btw, from experience. Anyway, those cars all sound a bit naff because they are 4 cylinders. This is an automotive constant 😁
